PRIMARY PURPOSE: To actively work with the Executive Director in the administration, organization, and evaluation of a comprehensive district program for student/athletes in grades 7-12.  Direct and manage assigned program areas of extracurricular athletics for the district. Provide each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with federal, state, University Interscholastic League (UIL) and local requirements.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Athletic Events

  1. Manage assigned athletic operations including overseeing ticket sales, monitoring game officials, and ensuring preparation of facilities.
  2. Attend district and post district contests.
  3. Prepare and recommend interscholastic game schedules for areas assigned.
  4. Monitor the arrangements of transportation, lodging, and meals for in town and out of town events.
  5. Monitor the process of ordering athletic equipment.
  6. Monitor the process of reconditioning and repairing athletic equipment.
  7. Developing and planning the middle school athletic schedules. 

 

Instructional Management

 

  1. Meet regularly with sport-specific coaching teams at the middle schools to review and analyze student performance. 
  2. Ensure that student progress in middle schools are evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and the findings are used to make the athletic program more effective.
  3. Assist Executive Director to plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of educational goals.
  4. Assist Executive Director   in maintaining an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
  5. Assist Executive Director   in conducting annual training of all coaches regarding changes and updates to state law and UIL rules and policies.  Keep coaches updated or interpretations of laws and UIL rules.

 

Budget and Inventory

 

  1. Develop and administer budgets for assigned areas.
  2. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
  3. Recommend the disposal and replacement of athletic equipment.

 

School/Organizational Climate

 

  1. Communicate and demonstrate high expectations of the coaching staff. 
  2. Demonstrate success in anticipating, and managing conflict, in all programs. 
  3. Demonstrate openness towards staff in receiving suggestions for improving coaching effectiveness.

  1. Assist Executive Director in developing a vision and goals for the athletic and educational programs that leads to improvement of these programs. 
  2. Assist Executive Director in developing metrics to evaluate growth, development, and success of school athletic programs. 
  3. Assist Executive Director in assessing and responding to needs related to job responsibilities and the athletic program.
  4. Assist Executive Director in designing feasible projects for implementing innovations designed to improve and enhance athletic program effectiveness.
  5. Assist Executive Director to ensure that program review and renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.

 

Personnel Management

 

  1. Assist Executive Director to define expectations for staff performance. 
  2. Make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, retention, and dismissal for athletic employees. 
  3. Assist Executive Director with recruiting, training and supervision of the middle school athletic personnel.  
  4. Assist Executive Director with the transportation department to ensure coaches’ eligibility and availability for bus driving.  



Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

 

  1. Assist Executive Director in directing and managing the district’s athletic program and facilities.
  2. Assist Executive Director in preparing and approving all interscholastic game schedules.  
  3. Assist Executive Director to ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently
  4. Assist Executive Director in compiling budgets and cost estimates based upon documented program needs
  5. Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required
  6. Assist Executive Director in implementing the policies established by federal law, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and the local board policy in athletics

 

Professional Growth and Development

 

  1. Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment through active participation in clinics, seminars, and related professional organizations
  2. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for all district athletic staff

  1. Articulate the district’s goals in athletics to the community and solicit its input in realizing those goals
  2. Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs
  3. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

  1. Supervise, evaluate, and recommend for hiring of athletic coaches for assigned areas.
  2. Supervise, evaluate, and recommend for hiring of support staff for assigned areas.
  3. Select, assign, supervise, and evaluate the following staff:

Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Frequent extended work hours during evenings or weekends. Attend evening meetings, make internal and external presentations.  Ability to lift or move 20 lbs. to 25 lbs.

 

Safety:  Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
