REPORTS TO:  Director of Bilingual, ESL, and Language Services                         

PAY GRADE:  Paraprofessional 050 (210 Days)                                                          

DEPARTMENT:  Bilingual, ESL, and Language Services

A Letter of Assurance will be issued for this position.

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To coordinate the required assessments of students participating in the bilingual and ESL programs. Provide appropriate training and support to campus language testers; plans and coordinates campus language assessments; assists in development, and implementation of procedures, goals and objectives; scores, analyzes, and inputs assessment data.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification: 

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

  • Proficient skills in reading, speaking, writing, and understanding English and Spanish languages
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze problems, develop solutions

  • Ability to travel throughout the district

 

Minimum Experience

  • Experience working with children, parents, and campus personnel
  • Experience in administering and scoring oral/written language assessments for program placement and monitoring
  • 2 years of related work experience (preferred)

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Administer and score language assessments for all students new to Irving ISD that indicate a language other than English on the Home Language Survey.
  2. Assist campuses with on-site language testing (PK-12) when needed.
  3. Assist in organizing and facilitating the testing process for early registration of PK and K students in the Spring.
  4. Enter testing data into eSchool.
  5. Prepare LPAC folder with required paperwork and send to the campus.
  6. Send and receive student files to and from campuses as needed.
  7. Maintain current files on all students tested by the Language Testing Center.
  8. Welcome and inform all students and parents sent to the Language Testing Center of the testing process required by law.
  9. Interview parents regarding their child’s education prior to qualification testing.
  10. Maintain inventory of test materials for the purpose of ensuring availability of material when needed.
  11. Provide training to campus language testers on the administration of required language assessment (preLAS, LAS Links and Iowa).
  12. Attends professional learning to continually improve qualifications, knowledge, and skills.
  13. Orders and distributes office supplies.
  14. Answers Language Testing Center phones, providing information, taking messages and/or referring to the appropriate person.
  15. Serve as a translator, as needed
  16. Maintain confidentiality of all information obtained at the Language Testing Center and campuses.
  17. Stay abreast of any testing changes made statewide or nationwidE
  18. Perform other job-related duties as assigneD

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:   Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

 

Safety:  Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
